Since this is Black History Month, I would like to share with some and remind others of both well-known and not-so-well-known facts and accomplishments by African Americans every day during the month of February. Why? Because Black History is everyone’s history.
On August 30, 1983, Guion “Guy” Bluford was the first African American to travel into space as a crew member on the 3rd flight of the Challenger shuttle. Bluford was also a colleague of the Ronald E. McNair and a Penn State University alumnus.
Visit here to learn more and to watch an exclusive interview of Guion Bluford with WPSU reflecting on his journey to outer space.
